Spider-Man: Back in Action (1978)

Spider-Man: Challenge the Dragon (1979)
It's worth starting from the very bottom. Unfortunately, when reviewing, I rated the films even worse.
We seem to be looking at a continuation of the series, or a cut of episodes from there (as I understood 2), where for some reason everything was rewired into a movie. Unfortunately, this is a cheap and mediocre sight.
The battle will not tell the story of the hero and the formation. And in general, it doesn't show any action. The Spider itself seems to be dead here. And the villain is a cliche.
The Dragon focuses more on action, but the plot is even worse. Besides John James and Spider, there are no familiar faces here. And who's the Asian girl here? Nothing saves you from thrashing. It's still mediocre.
The worst Spidey spectacle in his character's history is expected.
Back in battle - 4.5
Dragon Challenge - 4.5

Spider-Man: The Lotus (2023)
To be honest, it's hard to shove a movie made for 100 thousand dollars here. But whatever happens, it's good that he's not rated 3.1, and he wasn't humiliated very fairly. But there are problems.
The film itself will tell about the events after the death of Goblin and Captain Stacy. And now an ex-girlfriend is dying.
The first thing to know is that this is not a superhero movie, but a movie about a character's personal drama. The action here is for 2 scenes and then 1 cringe. Almost 2 hours of suffering and sadness for Gwen. Yes, it is well shown. Especially with references to the same Toby movie and the 90s animated series. If you remember, there was a series with a girl with an incurable disease. There's actually this topic here.
Yes, the actors are well-chosen, but they don't play perfectly, and the movie is pointless here, but it's made for fans and it works for their own money. You can even have fun.
5.5/10

The New Spider-Man: High Voltage (2014)
Of the big Spiders, the worst is the result of the Garfield movie. However, I do not strongly agree that the 3 parts deprived us deservedly.
Garfield continues to be a hero. But now he faces a powerful evil that was partially created by himself.
The main mistake of the film is that it seems to have good action, but most of it is given away to warm up. Especially for the second half of the movie. And also, for example, there is a gnarled goblin here. De Haan is more of a villain than the same Franco, who, with a great game, was her understandable character and Peter's friend. Just like in some movies, there are too many characters. Felicia performed by Felicity - ugh, but it didn't lead to anything in the end. They even gave MJ a ride here, but they cut him out for obvious reasons.
And the action itself seemed too cartoonish to me, and the budget here is 200 million. At the same time, even with 3 parts of Toby, even though he is a bit higher, for 3 parts I could find fault with something in 1.
However, Garfield and Stone are still good. However, with one of the most powerful scenes in the character's history, namely, Gwen's death, I got the idea that this is the worst version of Gwen, if you've watched the same cartoon, you'll understand why. The heroine will never wear the costume, and both parts are just Peter's love interest. Even though she helped him at various points.
It's obviously not a terrible movie, but it has problems.
6.7/10

Spider-Man 3: The Enemy in the Mirror (2007)
Despite the fact that it was called the worst at the time, we have always loved the film many times more. Yes, and I did not understand Haight in the year of release. And after many years, I know more and more people that I consider this movie to be underestimated.
Peter has defeated more than one villain, this time there will be several of them.
It's too early to shout about other problems. But it's definitely worth starting with them. After 3 films, Peter still doesn't realize that a lot of power is a lot of responsibility. Unfortunately, he doesn't always understand this either, but the suit and Venom play a role here. And Venom definitely looks weak after Hardy's version, no muscle, no strength, not even horror. Although the scene in the church is done in the style of Raimi's horror films.
And here, for example, is the villain (partially true) I like Franco, you can see his madness and sacrifice of redemption in the finale. For all the parts and films so far, this is Peter's confident 2 straight best friend (1 even, but there's a point).
And I liked the Sandman or the Sandman even more. His story and ending are the best reveal of a villain and drama among all Spider villains in general. How many Tiktoks have I seen with him, Eh.
And again, I liked the action, the budget for that time was insane. But you don't have to delay for a long time, Peter the emoboy is something, he overplays everything and is shown cringely, but as it is shown and said, it has become not only a meme, but also a great revelation of Peter's sides. And again, there are strong words from Aunt May about the responsibility of the Spider. The spider doesn't kill, he's a hero.
As a result, I didn't change the ratings of films so much before, but since I started today, I can change it here.
7.2/10

The New Spider-Man (2012)
Let's move on to the excellent Spider movies, according to many.
Despite the fact that Toby collected and waited for the 4th part. Nevertheless, we decided to merge it. And they gave us Garfield. Webb is a strange choice for me from the 1st part. But fortunately, everything works perfectly in the scenario.
The film focuses on a new villain, the Lizard, and Spider-Toby almost had him, but it didn't come to that. The lizard, despite the villainy, is an understandable character, his mistake and his actions have always bordered on good and bad. If you've watched the animated series, you'll understand me. But he's not a strong villain for a movie. However, as I said, the script here is like in the movie Toby, it works according to the canon, Gwen is many times more useful and better than MJ. The scene with Ben is worse for me, but it's just as touching.
And Garfield, it's a real discovery, it's where there's more of a sense of a humorous Spider, even though the movie is kind of dark and lackluster. But most importantly, the same claim as for Holland, Garfield is not a nerd or a freak here at all. In Toby's version, they kept pointing this out to us. He's cool, he's a hero, but he's also a nerd. It also feels like the guy on the left got bitten by a Spider. Well, the main weight of Toby's Spider is the Web. There are web shooters and there are real cobwebs.
Speaking of the Flash, Holland has a miscast, Toby has a cliche and a cringe. There was a man who could even come up to Peter and somehow cheer him up. Otherwise, this is the basic version of the Spider, but I almost didn't see anything wow in 2 parts. Because when they shouted that it was the best Spider, I honestly looked at it with a strange look.
7.2/10

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Well, here I think briefly. The spider was shown back in the Civil War, and there, to put it mildly, it did not cause anything. A separate film where Peter's sufferings are not shown 3 times. Now it's a youth comedy.
MJ Miscast, although Zendaya plays well, Holland is a jerk, literally. But for 7-8 films, they managed to shelter him and force him to accept. But the way to show it here is a cringe. Even at the end, he doesn't actually defeat the villain by himself. Yes, and the Falcon, for all the absurdity in other versions of tt, has a direct weight thanks to Kitan.
Yes, the movie looks easy, but it didn't cause any wow effect. But such a sample of the pen.
7.3/10

Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
The film follows the death of Tony and Avengers: Endgame. The finale is there, but the money is more important, so they gave us another part of St. Petersburg, and this time the European one.
And again, the villain is better than the hero. Here, Mysterio, played by Gyllenhaal, takes over the weight. Charisma and blatant lies take their toll. And also the beauty of the beauty of the backdrops and the kda is more interesting action, although there doesn't seem to be enough here either. And the part is more personal for Peter, most of it is saving friends and accepting himself, where he proves that he can become a better person and not shame Tony Stark's memory.
And here, briefly, that's the fate of the sequel, but I rated it much higher because of the quality. Part 3 will take its toll.
7.8/10

Spider-Man: A New Day (2026)
Did you think there would be a 1st place? I realized from the very trailer that there was no. However, the ratings in the West are temporarily high (8.2 so far). But here we are, and even the critics have understood everything.
A new day is a new chapter and a new trilogy of Peter, now he is independent, on his own, heroic. For some reason, Ned and MJ are still stalking. And it's really funny sometimes that they shared so much of it.
But it also has a lot of problems. The villain this time was Sink, played by the character Jean Grey (Lead-up to the X-Men). Her character has personal problems and is similar to Peter, but she is strong and dangerous.
Many people scolded 3 for the fan service, so here it is exactly the same. Here's the Punisher you need for the finale. Here's the Hulk for you to have a fight with for 4 minutes. Here's an almost naked Black Widow, but you don't need her here. And let's not forget about the Scorpio. I'm glad that the actor who played Vaasa was returned to Far Land, but even here he is a plot move. I'm not talking about the Tombstone at all.
And well, it's worth mentioning about Gray, do you remember Famke Jansson? Her character was a good fit, and when she's evil, it's just wow, But remember Thatcher or the animated series is the same. Let's forget and remember. A schoolgirl from a Very strange case with freckles is a villainous evil. I'll just remind you that she killed her kin without remorse. Just keep it in mind.
Many more scolded the action here, I personally spend the least time on it, but there is the most cartoony here and it was noticeable in the trailer. So even though we have a mess in front of us, Peter's drama and connection with the villainess are good. And Peter's stalking here is like an Obsession, it looks interesting and the humor is not bad. The main thing is that they did not destroy the canon of the 3 parts (almost). Yes, it's a good part of the series, but it's like I expected more. And even after 3, it's hard to shoot something outright flashy, but we managed to make at least a good movie.
7.8/10

Spider-Man (2002)
Dad's in the building, or he's already in the top 5. The beginning of the beginning of the whole Spider story, if it had been a failure, we wouldn't even have seen half of the other versions. Well, it's worth saying now. Spider - Toby is the best version of Spider. And my favorite.
They're not movies, but that's later. It is here, as I wrote, that the Schmuck Spider and the Spider that has a good scenario trilogy. Yes, now the effects of this particular part have aged slightly, and as many joked Toby and other not-quite-kids. But this is the problem of the films of the 0's.
But the scene with Uncle Ben is the best, and it's not only the credit of the actors, but also of Sam Raimi himself, who cast such actors in these roles. Toby is emotional and that's why he got memes with himself, he tears himself up as a simple guy, but that's why he became the best. The music, the cool opening credits with cobwebs, and the same scenes with the locals are playing in contrast. If Garfield's films are too dark and uninteresting, Holland's is a comedy. That's the balance of everything there is.
But as I wrote, there are problems. Dunst is not the best passion character here, for the entire trilogy there is a lot of melodrama and Peter's suffering for her. And she herself is not a gift. And they'd rather be separate (although later we'll find out that everything is OK with him).
And don't forget about the best villain of the trilogy, played by Defoe, who is a scientist in his own way. However, the mask spoils everything.
Yes, the sequel is the best part of the trilogy, but not much for me.
7.8/10

Spider-Man 2 (2004)
The best part of the Spider is Toby. Definitely the 4th place among others.
This time, the villain will be Doctor Octopus.
The action has improved. And even now he looks good. The villain on Otto is a real sight. Raspberry is beautiful and there is sympathy for him at the end and then I am glad of his appearance the most. The drama of Raimi's sequels takes the main weight. As in the Sinister Ones, he does work on the mistakes and does not give us the same ones. If the hero is aware of something, it is here. Although MJ is also 0.
It is also worth noting the costume, it suits Toby the most and it is he who has the most stylish here. It is also worth noting the wonderful actress on Aunt May (95 years old and still alive) and J.J.James, the best versions of all. Although 2 are taken to other parts as well.
It's a great sequel and, for me, the best example of how to make them.
7.8/10

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Well, the top 3 and still the best game version. And probably the lazy guy didn't want to look at 3 Spiders at once.
After part 2, Mysterio revealed who the Spider is and everyone blames him for what is happening, as everything was arranged differently by the villain. And Peter asks for help from a colleague to help solve the problem.
It was thanks to this part that we captured the same boring multiverse where all and sundry heroes and villains are met. Now Toby, Garfield and Holland are saving everyone. But most importantly, there is more emphasis on Peter's self-responsibility and he wants to help the villains. Spiders aren't here just for the sake of appearances and cool scenes, but finally the best action in the series. Now he is losing a loved one and comes to serious moments. MJ could have killed herself, too.,
Yes, there is also a temporary battle with Strange, which does not understand Peter's actions. There is a Goblin - Defoe who is finally without a mask and playing 100%. There is no goofy Spider, but Peter Parker and his mentors. They are the ones who make you realize both the weight of heroism and those very moments about important words.
Many people love cons. It's strange to me that Holland can handle catching villains so easily, they're like bosses of other parts and not easy. Is there a weakness here? Yes, and when the Sand managed to die because of the Spider. And why does he always walk like sand and not a man, so conveniently? You can see how the creators seem to have assembled more from other parts of the scene. And again, as I said, the action is good, but the most powerful current is at the end of the film. Ves is playing the same fan series, but finally there is a good approach to the hero and important scenes not only for Holland, but also for other Spiders.
8.3/10

Spider-Man: Across the Universes (2018)
The longest trilogy, and so far it's been worth it. So much so that the 3rd part will either be a complete failure or the 1st place among others.
Now they will tell us the Afro version of the Spider. Mile Morales gets the same abilities here, but the story goes a little differently. From 0, you can say it's a multiverse again. Spiders from other universes help Miles defeat Fisk, who is not just a bully, but a character with his own disclosure.
And it's fun to see different Spiders in a cartoon way. The main one died. Now there is not only Miles, but also a Pig that came from Looney Tunes. The Noir Spider that got his TV series (Cage is good), the Spider anime loli and skoof. Like an ordinary Peter, but a bit of a sucker.
And finally, Gwen (uff), the best love interest and independent heroine who goes through a personal arc (even more in the sequel) and the hero's best friend. Yes, Mile is actually a different character altogether, and not just because of the color. But Peter is here too. And he often helps the hero.
The most important thing is animation and music. The uniqueness of the drawing seemed like a controversial decision, like doing so. As a result, one of the best and most important parts. For this, by the way, the Spider received its 1st Oscar. Despite the same multiverse, the revelation of Miles' character here perfectly conveys the same responsibility that 3 Toby and Hollad films carried so well.
Definitely one of the best cartoons I've seen.
8.3/10

Spider-Man: Web of Universes (2023)
We'll have to wait at least another year for the finals. But so far, the sequel is tearing up everything that came before.
The animation in part 1 was acidic, gorgeous, and simply fiery. Then the creators just went into an even bigger gap. Most of all. The multiverse? Here you have a spider Cat, a Spider Dinosaur, a Punk, a Lego, a Psychologist and other spiders. Here are cameos of Venom's character and the old Spiders.
Well, as I said. the greater disclosure of Gwen's Spider. Her drama with her father and her personal one with Miles. But the most important thing is Miles, respectively. Again, the decision is on the level - I don't want to be like everyone else. They want to tell him that his loved one must die, but everyone couldn't tell him, even though they knew. Miles didn't accept it, then ran away.
We do not yet know if this is correct. But the quality and power of what is happening gives great power, and for my responsibility, I'm putting this part on 1 for now, because the problem with the finale is that it's only part 2 with the fuel for the sequel.
8.3/10
The best part of the Spider?1
So, the last few years have become some of the most difficult in the history of major studios like Disney and Pixar. On the one hand, a lot of failed projects have been released over the past 7-8 years, and on the other, new animation studios have appeared that create high—quality films with the help of small teams.
Now Disney and Pixar are experiencing creative stagnation, so in the next 6 years we will see a large number of sequels to popular franchises. This method proved its effectiveness with the cartoon "Zootopia 2" (about which there was a previous post), which collected an impressive box office. These are the main trends in Hollywood animation right now.
And in this post I will talk about the planned projects of Disney and Pixar.

:D

In fact, quite a lot is already known about Toy Story 5. We know for sure that Woody will return to his friends in the story and they will confront a new villain, the Lily Pad tablet. Apparently they decided to make some kind of metaphor, an allusion to the current generation that has abandoned toys (by the way, write your favorite childhood toy in the comments). The cartoon itself will be released in June this year.

Less is known about this cartoon, and it makes sense because it won't be released until a year later, so it won't be until the end of the year that we see the trailer. All that is known is that everything is happening in Venice, the cat's name is Nero and he owes money to the feline mafia. Premiere March 2027.By the way, the only new project on the list

One can only guess about the plot. Some people assume that the action will take place not in the kingdom, but in an Enchanted Forest and will tell about the magical spirits of the forest. Premiere November 2027.

Nobody can really say anything about The Incredibles 3 because the plot is a top secret. Premiere in 2028.

It is known about Coco's Secret that we will see a grown-up main character. He will have to reveal new secrets of the family. Also, some people confidently say that we will see new characters. So we'll be waiting. Premiere in 2029.

Nothing is known except that the plot will revolve around the topic of Global warming. It will premiere in February 2027.

In general, no one is trying to say anything about the 4th part, you just have to wait for the release of the cartoon. But it is known for sure that it is in production. It will be released in 2028 (most likely)

I decided to record Zootopia 3 as a bonus, because it has not been officially announced. But it is known that in 2019 the voice actor Tommy Lister announced the development of 2 parts, that is, the official announcement of 3 parts is only a matter of time. Most likely, Zootopia 3 will be released in 2030, there is just time, and the company has a free year. Also, journalists with ties to Disney provided information about the development of Zveropolis 3-5, as Zveropolis is the most in-demand of Disney cartoons in the Chinese (the largest in the world) film market and will bring a lot of income to the company.
If you are interested in learning about all the references in the cartoon Zootopia 2, you can take a look at the last post.
Thanks for attention.
Your most anticipated cartoon from the list :)1
Bottom line: Jax in Episode 7 is shown as a character on the edge. His actions are a mixture of rebellion, desperation, and possible outside influence. This makes him the central figure of the coming events: either he will destroy the circus, or he will become its victim.
If you have any questions, you can ask them.
Pixar - how many meanings there are in this word, it is both a legendary studio and a failed studio. Everyone who grew up in the 2000s says that new projects are great, but this is not the case) Yes, "Turning red" is like a mess, and "Buzz Lightyear" is even worse, but remember "Soul", "Luca", "Good Dinosaur", "Inside out", "Elemental" and many others.
Oh, "Soul" and "Luca", I remember going to the movies for them, nostalgia) Well, we don't forget "Elemental" either)
Well, catchy music in the intro, and anyway, I liked the cartoon at the beginning of 2022, and even now, it's a cool animated series, it's a pity that it's not very popular.
Season 4 is so cool, I like it, of course it's not as cool as season 6, but it's very interesting, and this is the first season of Winx that I've seen! Legend. The intro is top!
Here we have the screensaver of my favorite Winx season - Season 6! She's cheerful, dynamic, and generally has a friendly atmosphere. I love the season and the intro! Bloomix in a heart!
Guys, you know, there's nowhere without Disney, yes, everything is bad for them now, but I remembered the old Disney (Foxina bee likes it - she reproaches in 10th place for the fact that everyone loves the old, and in 6th point she says that everything is old). Disney isn't Pixar, so they're not doing well. But intro flew away, I didn't find intro with 100 on the Internet, but I remember it in reality!
I decided on a Bingo theme because Bingo is more popular)
I know Bluey's fans are going to eat you up and say, You like Bluey, so why isn't she in the first place!?
And I will say that if I like it, then I have the right not to put it in the first place. Yes, Bluey top, but the theme is simple.
The Winx season 7 intro is just a dump of everything, usually it's considered childish, but everything is fine here - the instrumental, the singer's voice, the animation and all that!
Since my two clansmen ARE JUST OBSESSED WITH HILDA, I can't help but add her, well, the screensaver is really cute, and the soundtrack is pleasant, in general.
Animaniacs have made a mega-satirical intro, and the music is rocking. Basically, Animaniacs became famous for the World of Yakko, America of Wakko and presidents. Also test songs!
A legendary intro that you can listen to in any language. I have inserted a collection of different languages specifically for this purpose. But the original just sounds bombastic.
Which is the best intro?0
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released in 1937 by Walt Disney Productions, is not just a beloved children’s film but a groundbreaking achievement in the history of animation. It marked the first full-length animated feature film and set a new standard for storytelling, artistry, and technical innovation in animation.

Cartoon poster
One of the most significant contributions of Snow White to animation is the development and use of innovative techniques that enhanced the quality and realism of animated films. The multiplane camera, a device that allowed for the layering of artwork and backgrounds, was used extensively in Snow White. This technique created a sense of depth and dimension that was previously unachievable in animation, making the scenes more visually engaging and immersive.

Snow White's storyboard
Additionally, the film employed the use of live-action reference footage to help animators capture realistic movements and expressions. This method, known as rotoscoping, ensured that the characters’ actions were fluid and lifelike, contributing to the overall believability of the story.
Snow White also set a new standard for storytelling in animation. The film featured a complex narrative with well-developed characters, each with their own personalities and motivations. The character of Snow White herself became an iconic figure in popular culture, known for her kindness, bravery, and resilience.

The famous scene with Snow White
The film’s use of music and song to advance the plot and express characters’ emotions was also innovative. The songs in Snow White, such as “Whistle While You Work” and “Some Day My Prince Will Come,” became instantly recognizable and helped to establish the tradition of musical numbers in animated films.
The success of Snow White had a profound impact on the animation industry. It proved that animated films could be financially successful and appeal to a wide audience, paving the way for future animated features. The film’s technical achievements and storytelling innovations inspired animators and filmmakers for decades to come, influencing the development of animated films and television shows.

A still from 1949's Cinderella
Moreover, Snow White helped to establish Walt Disney as a leader in the animation industry. The company’s commitment to innovation and quality set a high standard for animated productions, and Disney continued to push the boundaries of animation with subsequent films like Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi.

A still from the monumental Fantasia
In conclusion, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a revolutionary film that changed the landscape of animation. Its innovative techniques, compelling storytelling, and memorable characters set a new standard for the industry and paved the way for the animated films we know and love today. Snow White will always be remembered as a landmark achievement in the history of animation, inspiring generations of animators and audiences alike.

That's the end of my top five by five.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
Which category has more characters that you might like?2

In the continuation of our rating, we will determine the best stories of the sad storyteller: from puppet animation to superheroics, from biography to the acclaimed series.
From the imagination of Tim Burton... Let's get started!
* * *

The acclaimed sequel divided the audience at the time, and it seems that the debate about it has not died down to this day. Some consider it too much even by today's standards, others admire the courage, gloomy tone and new characters. I used to consider the movie one of my favorites ever, now I'm somewhere in the middle.
The second "Batman" is like a series about an ill—mannered clone from Smeshariki. Yes, we've seen things much darker, yes, it's still cool and adult, but it's like you don't expect such a cryptic thing from an almost children's film. Behind the shadow of the sequel, few people will remember how dark the original "Batman" was, and how much it turned the idea of what a comic book movie could be. Now Burton just raised the degree, and it worked... heterogeneous. To say the least.
On the one hand, we have a Catwoman with a BDSM whip and in a latex suit who will sexually lick Batman's face. On the other hand, the Penguin, who, although famous for his bloodlust and simply vile habits, eats raw fish in front of the public, but looks like a comical villain from Scooby—Doo with this villainous laugh riding a giant rubber duck. Let's put it this way: either your noses are bitten off with fountains of blood, or an army of kamikaze penguins is trying to blow up the city - these are slightly different formats.
But... Isn't that the beauty of it? The history of the franchise has shown that no safe approach can replace the pure imagination of the author, even if he is sick. The film is full of stubborn humor on the verge of a foul. This is a concentrated Burton madness, which we all love, and at the end — a drop of sad New Year's mood. I will single out the role of Christopher Walken, who is ready to compete with Danny DeVito for the title of the main monster in this film.
Score: 7 bitten noses out of 10 lashes by Michelle Pfeiffer. Humanity is not ready for this acid yet.
* * *

Have you seen a lot of black-and-white cartoons that are not a century old or festival-level? Popular, relevant, and still bold. The beauty of Burton is that even in the delicate children's segment, he allows himself not only to avoid adult topics, but also the gloomy, or even frightening form of their presentation.
I know what I'm talking about because I watched Frankenweenie the year it was released, when I was a 12-year-old kid. He scared the hell out of me with his mutant rats, but at the same time he established a deep emotional connection with me. Now there are not enough Gothic films in the children's segment, such as "Coraline", "Nine" or "Monster House".
I am surprised by the laconism in the elaboration of characters, which is especially evident in Burton's animation. I haven't reviewed Frankenweenie for five years, but I remember perfectly well the sinister Professor Rzykryuzski (just listen), and the nauseating Edgar, and sportik Toshiaki, the pretentious Nassor, the physical therapist, the mayor's daughter... They may not have a deep character and story arc, but the detail of their appearance and manner of speech firmly imprints these characters in your soul. The form determines the content itself.
Frankenweenie reminds me of R.L. Stein's Horror Films, those same books in the spirit of urban legends, about how children overcome the monster from the closet with the power of friendship. This is the best of everything that Burton shot in the tenth, and I would like him to return more often now to these creepy-touching stories about boys who raise their beloved dog from the dead.
Personal recommendation: do not be lazy to check the name posters for each character in the film, including all monsters, on the Kinopoisk. All posters are stylized as thrash horrors of the 30-50's — wild vibe.
Rating: 7 screamer cats (seriously, I almost died) out of 10 creaking mills.
* * *

I've been thinking for a long time how to start a block about this movie. Yes, this is the base, it is necessary to know this, but I will not call Beetlejuice an outstanding pearl or an incorruptible for all time. The film declared Burton as a bright, independent author, whose visual style gave rise to a queue of imitators already in the year of release. This film is a phenomenon, a monument film, worthy, as it turned out, even of a Zoomer sequel. To a much lesser extent, this is a sit-down-and-look film, being surpassed by the next two works of the author.
Nevertheless, "Beetlejuice" is a wild style. Considering that Burton does not write scripts and is only engaged in production, all the recognizable features of the director have already appeared in this project. Firstly, he always allows his actors to fool around, which resulted in the image of a demonic trickster. Today it feels like an outlet against the backdrop of all Michael Keaton's moody roles.
Secondly, a bright crowd. Seriously, I want a separate film about each inhabitant of the afterlife. Here Burton flexes as a former artist, which we will admire in "The Nightmare before Christmas" and in "The Corpse of the Bride", equally rich in colorful characters.
Thirdly, amazing practical effects. The giant worm on Saturn's moon looks amazing and, it seems, will never grow old, because it was originally conceived to be vibe-outdated with these jerky stop-motion transitions between frames. This is a wonderful concept where the deceased family, being ghosts, tries to expel obnoxious new tenants from the house. "Others," hold our bug juice. This is a creep buffoonery with toothy humor, and definitely one of the best children's horror films in history.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be an adaptation of a lost short story by Poe or a novel by Emily Bronte, so the film is made in the canon of Victorian Gothic literature. And this is definitely a compliment. For many years, The Corpse of the Bride has been gathering dust in the shadow of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and I am pleased that in recent years the film has grown an independent fan base.
The story of a marriage by calculation is as old as the world, the plot for 75 minutes is simple and concise, but it is in the details that the hand is felt. Burton standardly criticizes materialistic philistinism and pompous aristocracy. But, as an example of the same "Alice", no one talks about their emotions here.
Take a look at these characters! You will learn their whole character from the design and plastic of the doll figures alone. The otherworld looks amazing, the songs are pleasant and do not slow down the narrative, as it happens in musicals. On the contrary, each number is unique in its mood, and often in its genre component. Some compositions are unobtrusively sewn into the narrative itself, for example, Victor and Emily playing the piano in four hands. Please note that Victor plays in a major, warm way, which reflects belonging to the world of the living, and Emily plays in a minor and cold, but after a few bars she joins Victor's tonality, as if entering his "living" space.
I note that this is simply a great genre comedy. Not many romantic feature films are able to evoke emotions such as the chemistry of these characters. What is worth one scene of Victor and Victoria meeting after his piano playing. Almost nothing is said, the characters stutter and drive equivocations — but how much is said, and Emily's tragic love and her final rejection of Victor are forever etched into the soul. This is a deeply sensual, literary film, definitely a classic of world puppet animation.
Score: 7 cranial caterpillars out of 10 muskets.

The position of the series in this list ranged from 9th place to 4th, as a result, I settled on a compromise. This is a strong, verified series that does not offer the viewer anything new and works as a talented attraction. Without negativity, the entertainment value of "Wednesday" is exceptional, and I appreciate it when you can have a good time watching it.
I explain the phenomenon of popularity for myself simply: zoomers need their own "Harry Potter", and millennials are hungry for the atmosphere of a mysterious school of magic. I will not dissemble, Nevermore does not have anywhere near that mythology and fabulousness, from the category of "we have Hogwarts at home." But the series diligently takes care to captivate you with a lot of mysteries and local folklore. It even has its own kind of faculty competition, the same dark academy raid with secret societies, nods to Edgar Poe and William Faulkner.
It may seem as if the series is trying to be smarter than it is, saying that we are not only admiring Ortega here, but also learning something new. And... you are not exactly wrong. These mentions are no more significant than "we found out, we agree." But I suddenly want to stand up for the series. I'm not a fan of the metamodern in the spirit of "American Horror Story", when not the most outstanding form tries to define the content through references, but I like how in "Wednesday" every stylistic decision is beautifully woven into the narrative.
Yes, it still looks like a cut for TikTok, but if you look at what the motive behind it is, you will find a good idea. Simply put, Ortega can make an important face for another cynical punch a hundred times in a series, but the plot will definitely lead us to the idea that denying our emotions, unsociability and blinkering is not an excuse even for a very great talent. The authors understand why we are gathered here, and just let us enjoy Ortega's next trick, as if conducting a dialogue with the viewer directly, bypassing the conventions of the film language.
This still doesn't add much depth to the series, but it doesn't make it a dummy for preschoolers at all. I also like Burton's involvement. Starting with the fifth episode, you, like me, will probably notice a change of director. Each episode stands out: the boat race, the school ball, the fair, the arrival of parents or Uncle Fester.
Some scenes are almost masterpiece out of context. Personal recommendation: try to watch the ending of the third episode in isolation from the rest. A monologue, cutting interesting, and most importantly emotional hooks, and all to the beautiful orchestral version of "Nothing Else Matters" with soulful medieval notes. This is a real Renaissance of Burton's career, and I'm glad that after this series they started talking about him again. Although two years ago, he himself did not know where to go from it.
Rating: 7 dramatic views of Ortega out of 10 jokes about dismemberment.

Let's skip the part with the enumeration of merits and influence on the genre — this is just an amazing film. Until dushny Nolan ruined the whole fan with his social network, he was also considered the best about the character, and before the release of Reeves' masterpiece, he was also my favorite.
Everything is fine here. Gotham is gothic, Batman is erotic, even the Joker does not look like a left-wing schoolboy avatar. The film envelops the entourage. Starting as a genre neo-noir, he dosed reveals the mythology of Batman, but (!) does not stretch it into an hour-long story of formation. Instead, we taste the mysterious nature of the hero through the perspective of criminals, police, journalists, ordinary residents of the city. Hot take: the movie looks like an adaptation of the mafia game, if such a thing could take place.
The image of Bruce Wayne is concise and pleasant, I shake the strong hand of Michael Keaton for a great job. Unlike Bale or Affleck, this Bruce has character, human emotions, and a slight irony. His duet with the best screen Alfred is incomparable, the butler turned out to be perfectly prim, strict, but most paternally sincere. I can believe that this Alfred is capable of replacing Bruce's father.
Joker-Nicholson is a real gangster, a crank and a heartthrob, not loaded with a hackneyed actualochka. His performance in the gallery to Prince's soundtrack is art itself. However, Burton does not change himself and kneads a pinch of wild game, like the Joker's fake cosmetics, after which the girls die with a numb smile on their face... and then he shoots a commercial featuring corpses. Is it weird? Yes, it's awesome. It's also 1989 in the yard, think for yourself.
But it is here that Burton perfectly balances grotesque sincerity and noir seriousness, creating a unique mix in the atmosphere and design of the film. Separately, I will note the memorable minor characters and the death scene of the Joker. That toy laugh from the corpse still haunts me, as does the scene of the underground operation with rusty tools, which is why he got such a smile.
Score: 8 comically long pistols out of 10 amazing Kitons (seriously, let him adopt me...)

I could name a hundred shortcomings of this film, from the protracted musical numbers to the sloppy staging of individual scenes, but I strongly do not want to stifle this unique work. As one well-known cook says, when it's delicious, then it's delicious.
The emotional palette of Sweeney Todd is so intense, she revels in her own naked nerve so much that it is almost impossible not to get infected with it. If we could be condescending to Burton's other attempts at gloom, this film leaves no room for criticism. This is not only the director's most creep film, but also a very good horror out of context.
Todd's righteous hatred of his wife's killer is intertwined with a tender feeling for his daughter, and they are together with Mrs. Lovett's painful, perverted infatuation with the killer hairdresser. That's a family, they sheltered a boy, saving him from the sadistic Pirelli, but they fed the named son with their pies with human flesh. However, as well as half of London... To hell with your Jokers and Harley Quinn. These two are my favorite Bonnie and Clyde of modern times!
There are scarier, sharper, deeper, bloodier and more thoughtful horrors. The terrible charm of this film is in the seething tragedy of a little man, which Dostoevsky himself could have written. Doomed love in the midst of urban sewage, touching madness, like an abscess on the body of Puritanical values. With such material, it was easy to fall into vulgarity, instead Burton created a musical that was beautiful in its ugliness.
A shot in striped tights on the beach > everything else. The final scene with the stove >>> everything else. Please note that almost the entire cast, including supporting roles, participated in the Harry Potter films — a plus sign for the British vibe. If you love Jack the Ripper and Sherlock Holmes, be sure to enjoy this work as well.
Score: 8 silver razors from 10 fingers inside cupcakes.

When I was about 10 years old, I saw a picture crossword puzzle in my grandmother's magazine — several Johnny Depp characters whose names were suggested to guess. Jack Sparrow was there, and Sweeney Todd, and, of course, Edward. Even then, without even knowing about Burton, I felt through one expression of the actor's face in a tiny photo all the barely expressive sadness of his character. I think I bought out the contents of the entire movie long before I saw it for the first time.
You may have heard the take more than once that Burton approaches the movie as if it were an animation. This is the peculiar genius of the director: he looks at the actors as if they were drawings. It's enough for him to imagine just one character, a lonely cyborg with blades instead of hands, and the world builds itself around him — just have time to saturate it with new details.
You usually won't find Burton's deep psychology and nuances of human relationships, which is why even his best films seem caricatured. That's the beauty of it. He takes several expressive images and saturates them with a purely expressionistic mechanism of emotions, a subtle transfer of state by external tools — effective and very effective. This method may seem rude to souls like me, but let's remember the "show don't tell" rule and the European expressionism of the 20s, which gave rise to the first masterpieces of cinema in history and developed the possibilities of cinema as a language.
All this expressive, sensual splendor found its best embodiment in "Edward Scissorhands", in its touching charm. Let's pay tribute to Johnny Depp — true talent is revealed in such laconic roles, where one eternally puzzled look is instead of a thousand words. I can't help but cry from the scene of dancing under snowflakes, Elfman does not make music, but real magic.

How many times have you met a narrative in family films, saying that a fairy tale exists, it is real, you just need to open your heart and believe? So I'm sick of this cloying, manipulative and out of touch idea. The child grows up, and it turns out that there is no tooth fairy, neither is the Queen of England, and the movie deceived him for momentary effect.
After the "Big Fish", the entire run with real fairy tales could be closed once and for all. This is Burton's least Gothic film, apart from "Big Eyes" and the episode with the witch's eye, in which the main character allegedly saw his death. And, like all good works by a director, this one is dedicated to one particular dreamer. Edward Bloom is an incorrigible optimist and a jerk, comparable in luck only to Forrest Gump. Their principle is the same — "the road will be mastered by the walking one," but if Gump was motivated by the inability to assess the risks due to dementia, then for Bloom to be an idiot is a conscious choice. And that's fine.
In form, it is still an adventurous tale about how the hero became friends with a giant, worked in a circus for food and rescued Siamese twin singers from captivity by Japanese troops. In fact, the giant is not quite a giant, and the Siamese twins are not quite Siamese, and this brings us to another simple and good idea: not so much about the road under the feet of the walking, but about the beauty in the eyes of the beholder.
Bloom literally draws augmented reality in his head and shares his tall tales with others, which is why he deserves the glory of having gone. This is a sunny semi-biography with an encouraging morality, where the freak turns out not to be a rejected klutz, but a strong-willed hero, such a Don Quixote of the 20th century. There is both an adventure and a beautiful romance with a love triangle, and a long time interval makes you start to feel nostalgic for the film before you even watched it.
The hero, played by the radiant Ewan McGregor, is an underrated literally me character. I was lucky enough to know such a person in my life, and once this film was one of my top ten favorites of all time. It's still Burton's best work of the century.
Rating: 9 McGregor smiles out of 10 of my tears.

Before the first place, I will speak about the films left out of the list.
Firstly, since Burton reshot "Frankenweenie" in the form of a more perfect cartoon, I did not include his game short version in the top. She's good. The same black and white and atmospheric, it will be a good aperitif for a Halloween party. Secondly, I haven't watched Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. An uninteresting debut for me with the most repulsive feature of Burton — the infantile antics of simply stupid characters.
Of course, it is impossible not to mention "The Nightmare before Christmas" — literally the most Burton film, which became the quintessence of his visual style... but he was not even assigned by himself due to his employment in another project. I insist that there is more Burton in the film than Selik, including the signature musical arrangement and character design, which performs 70% of the entire task.
The most canonical characters, the best compositions of Elfman, the most grotesque horror and the blackest humor are the main Halloween film of all time and some peoples, which I would put on 9 and put in second place if I counted within the main top.
And we are moving on to the top of the master's entire creative career. Oscar goes to...

I admit, I'm biased. Cinema about cinema is one of my favorite genres. Edward Wood Jr. is a director recognized by film critics as the worst director of all time. I must say, not without reason, but it also made him famous and the status of the main legend of thrash films. And I wouldn't underestimate the size of their audience. "The Sinister Dead", "Rocky Horror Horror Show", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" are classics of world cinema aesthetics, which would be much poorer without Wood's creative legacy. We all love Tommy Wiseau, Rob Zombie and Alexander Nevsky, to be honest — the spiritual followers of Ed Wood.
What is Burton doing? Burton elevates Wood's already outstanding story into an insanely stylish, black-and-white Gothic myth. This is a very free retelling of events: the hero even meets Orson Welles here (which never happened), at that time the drunken author of "Citizen Kane" — one of the greatest films in the world. Burton equates talent and mediocrity as two adjacent facets of the same phenomenon. Wood himself considered Wells a colleague, agreeing with the master's grumbling at greedy producers. He considered himself a great creator, and his films were masterpieces, sincerely not understanding the criticism against him.
He is a classic Burton weirdo, like Bloom from Big Fish, a desperate adventurer, inspired and inspiring. Depp shines, especially in the image of Wood, a transvestite. But the diamond of the film is the legendary Bela Lugosi, performed by the no less legendary Martin Landau. Lugosi is widely known for his role as Count Dracula in the 1931 film and several other roles in horror films of varying degrees of lousy. The actor remained in demand for a long time, but by the middle of the century he had lost his former greatness.
Wood tried to resurrect his career in his awkward film work, but Burton... he resurrected Lugosi for real, even after his death. The director often turned to film veterans, be it Vincent Price or Christopher Lee, and here he also honored the memory of his teacher. Wood and Lugosi had a very touching friendly tandem that broke my heart in the second half of the film. In addition to the old vampire, Wood helped many people in need, albeit in a peculiar way, but to be realized, whether it was a circus strongman or a pack of respectable movie stars.
The film is imbued with a sense of light sadness, even the boring morality of "being yourself" reveals itself expressively and does not amuse you with false hopes. Wood is a legend, he influenced a whole stratum of the industry through his own mediocrity and prejudice, and also ... died in debt without the slightest hint of recognition.
Burton gives Wood this glory in absentia in the scene of the triumphant premiere of Plan 9 from Outer Space. The premiere that never happened. Undoubtedly, Burton will remain in the centuries, as well as Wood himself, because despite everything, both masters did their job to the end. Fan fact: In Burton's three best films, the main character is named Edward.
Rating: 10 Vampire busts out of 10 TV horror stylizations.

Hello everyone again!
Sitting one evening and thinking about the idea for another post, I remembered one small "hobby" two years ago. I took cartoons from famous studios (Disney, Pixar, Dreamworms, Sony, etc.) and tried to correlate them with one time period or another (assuming that all cartoons take place in the same universe).
It turned out to be a list of certain sizes, which I safely scored for two whole years. Yes, I had it on my list of ideas for the tournament, but it seemed doubtful to me and I scored again. And so, when the posts appeared, this idea gained the right to a second life.
The cartoons will run chronologically. In addition to the basic information, I will try to describe how I selected the time interval and, if possible, the location of the action. Well, some anachromisms (not so critical) I also tried to omit it.

Dinosaur
Studio: Disney
Date: ~66 million years ago
Location: Unknown (possibly North America)
In general, the date is quite indicated by the fall of a meteorite (to tell the truth, I did not watch the cartoon itself, but I read about the plot).
Here we already meet several anachromisms (some dinosaurs, which by this time should have become extinct and lemurs, which appeared only after 30 million years).
I couldn't determine the location for sure, however, most of the dinosaurs shown lived in what is now North America, so the assumption falls on it.

The Croods family
Studio: DreamWorks
Date: ~110-120 thousand years ago
Location: presumably Europe.
There was a difficulty here. On the one hand, there are (presumably) Neanderthals depicted here and many points to them. On the other hand, there are no characteristic signs of the Ice Age (judging by the footage I found), so it can be assumed that the events took place either before 100 thousand years ago or after the 12 thousandth year BC. But the second date is not suitable, since by that time the Neanderthals had already become extinct.
And considering that here they are quite technologically advanced for their time, I will put them at the boundary of the pre-glacial and ice age.
Well, if we start from the fact that these are Neanderthals, then the place can be defined as Europe.

The Ice Age
Studio: BlueSky
Date: ~70 thousand years ago
Location: presumably Europe or Asia
The situation here is about the same as with the previous place. The only difference is that the Ice Age has already arrived, which means that events take place a little later.
It is also difficult to determine the location, but I dare say it is Europe or Asia, since such glaciation is not suitable for Africa, and there were no people in America at that time.

Little brother bear
Studio: Disney
Date: ~12-14 thousand years ago
Location: North America
Everything is relatively simple here. Some of the cartoon characters are Paleoindians, which means that it is very easy to determine the place (namely North America) and the approximate time, namely the first few millennia of human exploration of America, since there are no formed cultures for a later time.

The King of Dreams
Studio: DreamWorks
Date: ~XIX/XVII century BC
Location: Egypt and Judea
Everything is quite simple here, since the main character of the cartoon is presumably a real historical character (or at least an image), namely Joseph, who is a character of the Pentateuch and the Bible.
The location is also very clear from the very context of the cartoon.

Hercules
Studio: Disney
Date: ~1300s BC
Location: Greece
Let's omit the fact that the cartoon has almost nothing to do with real legends and myths about Hercules/Hercules and take them as a basis. Of course, when dealing with a mythical character, it is difficult to establish a dating in any way. However, according to the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, Hercules lived 900 years before him (that is, around the 1300s). I think they'll do too.
Well, everything is also clear with the place - Greece and, occasionally, Asia Minor (but we do not take it into account).

The Prince of Egypt
Studio: DreamWorks
Date: XIII century BC.
Location: Egypt, Sinai, Judea, Arabian Peninsula (presumably)
The date in the case of this cartoon is also quite simple. We are talking about two historical figures - Moses and Ramses. And if the existence of the first one has not been proven and the dates of his life are known only from religious sources, then the Pharaoh of Egypt lived in the XIII century BC, which is relatively well known.
The location is more interesting here. It is logical that there will be Egypt, the Sinai Peninsula and Judea. However, it is worth remembering the moment when Moses escapes from Egypt after killing the overseer. As a result, he falls into the Midianite tribe.
And here comes the controversial point - the exact place of residence of this semi-nomadic people is unknown. There are two options - the already mentioned Sinai, as well as the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula, which can also be noted as a place of action.

Mulan
Studio: Disney
Date: II or V century A.D.
Location: China
In the case of Mulan, perhaps it's worth starting with a description of the location, since everything is simple and banal here - this is China (who would have thought).
Dating is more difficult. On the one hand, the original legend probably dates back to the Northern Wei period, that is, the 5th century AD. However, according to the events of the cartoon, China is being attacked by the Xiongnu people, who were able to pose a threat to China only until the II century AD, and by the estimated date the legends had already died out.
Therefore, we can offer two dates at once - the II and V centuries of our era.

The sword in the stone
Studio: Disney
Date: V-VI centuries AD.
Location: England
Today we will finish with a cartoon that is quite simple to analyze. The "Sword in Stone" is based on the legends of King Arthur. Of course, the cartoon has little in common with the original legends, but approximate dates can be taken, namely, the V and VI centuries AD, when a possible prototype of the legendary king of the Britons ruled approximately.
That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed this experimental format. If I have made any mistakes or inaccuracies, please correct me in the comments. Thanks for reading and see you soon!
Almost 4 months have passed since I released the last part of this series of posts. Well, I think it's time to bring her back. I present to you the second part of the post about where and when the events of famous cartoons took place.

Atelier: Disney
Date: ~9th-11th century (or 12th-13th century)
Place: Agrabah (Baghdad), Middle East
Let's start with a fairly simple one. As you know, both the events of the original fairy tale and the original events in the cartoon (before Agrabah was introduced due to the events in Iraq) took place in Baghdad. It can be seen from the climate and architecture in the cartoon.
It's more complicated about time. My initial assumption was that all this happened between 800 and 1000 years, that is, at the dawn of the turbulent power of the Islamic world, when such a rich and prosperous city could exist at all.
However, one thing confused me. The ruler of Agrabah is the Sultan. But the problem is that at that time this title was not applied to rulers and, based on the Koran, had a slightly different meaning. The Seljuks were the first in those regions to call themselves that. Their arrival took place in 1037, and a more serious consolidation took place only in the 12th and 13th centuries.
But this theory has one main disadvantage. The cartoon character, well, does not look like a Turk in any way. And they will not call any governor of the Turks sultan. Therefore, probably, between the 9th and 11th centuries it is somehow more real.

Studio: Disney
Date: 1189/90-1193
Location: England
Yes, I immediately omit the fact that the main characters here are anthropomorphic animals. And the fact that this is England is also understandable. Let's go back to the date.
Of course, one could dig into the origins of the Robin Hood story, but everything is much simpler. The main antagonist is Prince John, who seizes power while King Richard of England leaves on a crusade.
I think it's clear that we're talking about Richard the Lionheart and John Landless.
This exact date is due to the fact that the date of the beginning of the Third Crusade, in which Richard participated, is known - 1189. And in 1190, John, in response to the appointment of his brother's son as heir, seized power. The end of the cartoon is connected with Richard's return to England. In reality, this happened in 1193.

Studio: Pixar
Time: 12th-14th centuries
Location: Scotland
The most difficult point in terms of determining the date (with the place it is clear - Scotland).
Since there were no kings of Scotland named Fergus, I was guided only by the entourage, namely the castle. As you know, the prototype of the castle from the cartoon was Dunnottar. The fortress was there for a long time, but it was the castle that was regularly mentioned only since 1100. There is a lower threshold, okay.
The upper one was more difficult to determine, but based on the clothes of the characters, it gives a lot of the stereotypical Middle Ages, because most likely they were before the Stuart dynasty. And the first Stuart on the throne of Scotland was the second half of the 1370s.

Studio: Disney
Date: not earlier than the 15th century
Location: possibly France
It was difficult with Sleeping Beauty, because there was little information. According to the cartoon, the action takes place in a fictional country. However, returning to the fairy tale, the same Wikipedia says that its events took place in the castle of Jusse, which is located in central France.
I must also say that I have met opinions about the place of action as Germany, but unfortunately they were not supported by any evidence base.

Studio: Disney
Time: the first half of the XV century
Place: Inca Empire (Peru)
The classic stage for this part is we know where, but we don't know when. Even to me, a person who is a little bit fumbling for Pre-Columbian America, it is completely unclear what century this is.
The maximum that can be assumed is late, since the infrastructure is developed, but there are still no classic signs of civil wars, because not the last 60-70 years of the Empire.
I will assume that this is the first half of the 1400's.
For now, that's it for today. Thank you for reading the post and see you soon!
