A childhood waifu for many. Misty first appeared as a character in the game *Pokémon Red and Blue*.
One of the main characters of the *Naruto* manga and anime—likely the most famous in the world.
Gwen Tennyson is one of the main characters of the animated series *Ben 10*—specifically, the cousin of the protagonist, Ben.
One of the main playable characters in the Street Fighter game series, she first appeared in the second game of the series.
Another *Naruto* heroine—second in terms of plot importance, but, as the statistics show, first in the eyes of the fans.
She is likely the first character who comes to mind when you hear the phrase "sexy video game girl." She first appeared in the 1996 game *Tomb Raider*.
You’ve probably already forgotten that this list isn't about girls, but about characters. I’ve already said everything there is to say about Naruto—after all, both the manga and the anime are named after him.
The main female character of the *Mario* game series. Overall, she gained her fame on the Internet largely due to the immense global popularity of the series as a whole.
My second childhood waifu. The story is similar to that of Pokémon: in the 90s, anime was just beginning to spread to other cultures, and *Sailor Moon*—a magical girl anime—was one of the most popular.
The reason they rank first is that the animated series attracted interest not from its target audience—girls under the age of 12—but from a significantly older demographic, most often men.
