That's why Pennywise always loses! Maturin in Stephen King's mythology.

Who is Maturin in Stephen King's works and what real role does he play in the development of the plot, and not just in decorative lore? Why was he cut out of the "IT" movies?

What can be stated with high confidence:

Fact 1. Maturin is a cosmic being introduced in the novel "It" (1986) and deployed in the "Dark Tower". He is depicted as an ancient Turtle that exists outside of ordinary time and space. Fact 2. Maturin is an antagonistic counterbalancing being in relation to Ono (Pennywise). In King's canon, he's not Ono's enemy, but he's not Ono's ally either—that's fundamentally important.

Fact 3. Maturin is connected with the concept of Creation through thought/word. In "It" it is said that he "tore the universe out of himself" (a metaphor for the birth of the cosmos), and this is consistent with King's recurring motif of creation through consciousness. Fact 4. Maturin helps the "Losers Club" through a ritual, but does not interfere directly. He gives knowledge and direction, but does not solve the problem for the characters.

What is NOT a fact, but is often erroneously stated:

Myths: Is Maturin a "good god"? No. It is a neutral cosmic being. He is closer to the deistic principle: he created and departed. His "kindness" is a human interpretation. Is Maturin the direct creator of It? There is no direct textual evidence for this. They exist in the same cosmic order, but their origins are different. Is Maturin actively involved in the events? On the contrary, his key trait is passivity and detachment.

His real influence on the plot

 It is the limiter of omnipotence. Without Maturin, It would look like an absolutely invincible evil. The turtle introduces a balance: It is not the only ancient creature in the universe. This is critically important: otherwise, the conflict would lose tension and turn into a hopeless horror without meaning.

The victory of the Losers Club does not look completely arbitrary, because: "IT" is limited in its abilities (the Derry barrier), Maturin provided information on how to defeat the clown, but in the end it all depends on how the characters behave.

The barrier around Derry, by the way, is in the shape of a turtle.

The barrier around Derry, by the way, is in the shape of a turtle.

Maturin symbolizes: a creator god without personal intervention (deism), an old, tired wisdom opposed to chaotic, parasitic evil, It is the limit of human knowledge. From a religious point of view, Maturin is not a god, but a created, albeit cosmic, being, which fundamentally distinguishes him from the Christian understanding of the Creator. King deliberately avoids the absolute god in the text.

That's why Pennywise always loses! Maturin in Stephen King's mythology.

Why isn't he in the movie and TV series? The film adaptations of "It" are fundamentally autonomous. They don't need a shared space—just a local Derry plot. Maturin doesn't move the plot forward, he substantiates it. Simply put: without Maturin, the film is worse in meaning, but with Maturin, it risks being worse as a film.

Interesting fact: In the book, when "It" encounters the grown-up "Losers," it says that the turtle, Maturin, is dead and has been strangled. Later, during another ritual, Bill realizes that "It" wasn't lying.

P.S.: The connection of "It" with the "Dark Tower"

Maturin is one of the "Beams" supporting the Tower. Through him, "It" ceases to be the local history of the town of Derry and becomes part of King's overall meta-plot.

That's what kind of turtle is in the series.

That's what kind of turtle is in the series.

The Dark Tower is the central axis of Stephen King's universe, a series of 8 novels and at the same time a metaphysical structure that keeps all worlds from disintegrating. Quite simply, the Dark Tower is the "supporting pillar" of reality. You can't see her, you hardly know about her, but without her, the world wouldn't exist.

background

Leitmotif

The blood meridian. Cormac McCarthy

There is a small minor spoiler.

  Two weeks ago, I was immersed simultaneously in three works in the genre of "Western": the series "Yellowstone", the game "Red Dead Redemption 2" and the book "Blood Meridian". A real wild trio. And today I want to share my impressions of the latest work, the novel "Blood Meridian".

The blood meridian. Cormac McCarthy

The background.

  In December, I went to a bookstore to choose a gift for a loved one, and came across a very attractive cover of this book. Of course, being not a naive fool, before I bought a book because of the cover, I went online to get acquainted with a brief description. What did I see?

Time magazine included "Blood Meridian" in the list of "100 the best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005". In 2006, The New York Times conducted a survey of writers and critics about the most important works of American fiction over the past 25 years, and "Blood Meridian" took second place.

Well, that sounds hype , I thought, and without hesitation I punched at the checkout. And then there was one continuous bloody mess waiting for me.…

THEY ARE WANTED.

The blood meridian. Cormac McCarthy

Briefly about the plot: The book tells the story of a kid named The Kid who joins a gang of scalp hunters. What motivates them? Money, cruelty, ideals. And now this frostbitten bunch is wandering along the border of Mexico and Texas, doing their dirty work.

The devil is in the details.

  The first and main questions that arise before diving into a story are: What 's wrong with it, and why do I need it?

  After reading the first third of the book about the gang's journey, the first thing that caught my eye and solidified in my opinion was the author's skill at descriptions. In general, every western describes in detail (or should do so) the nature of the wild West or the Mexican deserts. Endless sands and fields; the heat of the day and the coolness of the night; vultures, wolves, horses, mules and bison. McCarthy successfully copes with this important point in a work in the genre of "western". You read the pages, and they breathe of the wild West with all its heat, loneliness, mystery and struggle for survival.

  There are not many named characters in the work. The main ones come to mind: Toadvine (the clear guy), Brown (the brave guy), Irving (the doctor), Jackson (negro), Glanton (the leader, a la Dutch van der Linde), the Judge (the antagonist), Tobin (the former priest) and the Kid (the protagonist). It's actually not easy to remember them, since the characters in this work are extremely uncommunicative and rely more on the case.

  Did I say that the main character is a Kid? Okay, that's not really true. Yes, the story begins and ends with him, but in the middle of the plot he only flashes. The real heroes (or rather , the protagonists) of the book are evil, cruelty and their human nature, which the author explores in his book through the main villain, the Judge. As I wrote at the beginning of the post, there is a small spoiler here, and it lies precisely in who the antagonist is. But the spoiler is really unimportant, because from the first appearance of the Judge, you begin to sniff out his insidious and suspicious nature, which is then confirmed by the stories of one character, and in the end by Antagonista himself.

* * *

"In his hands is the same rifle that he is carrying now, all trimmed with German silver and with the name that he ordered to be printed under the cheek of the butt with a silver wire in Latin: Et In Arcadia Ego*. I mean, she brings death." - according to these words, which the former priest uses to describe the antagonist, you understand his whole character, essence and insides.

* "And I'm in Arcadia" (Latin) is a classic reminder that death visits even happy Arcadia.

* * *

The blood meridian. Cormac McCarthy

  The judge is a huge, very fair–skinned and completely clean-shaven man. Throughout the story, the Judge rubs gang members for philosophical topics. Sometimes they are delusional, but more often, unfortunately, they are true. Reflections on human cruelty and war. The Judge himself is in fact a metaphor for the devil of the West, a metaphor for the truest evil that lies in the human soul. The conclusion of the antagonist's beliefs is that by nature all people are evil – some initially, others in response to the evil of the former.

THE PRICE PER HEAD. The symbolism of evil.

Blood, death, and redemption.

Why read this novel?

Answer: An excellent description of the scenery, bloody and tough action, the author's plot ideas, the history of America. The moral.
[The author of the post, like the author of the book, does not promote cruelty, but on the contrary, insists on restrained study and doing good deeds]

He never sleeps. He says he will never die. He dances and dances. And he says he'll never die.…

Judge Holden

Judge Holden

Book: "Blood Meridian".

Author: Cormac McCarthy.

Genre: Western.

Written: 1985.

Verdict: 8.6/10. Not for the impressionable, as this is a study of human cruelty.

* * *

The universe of movies!

Jacob from the movie "Twilight"

Jacob from the movie "Twilight"

He has a great character and a great body. And sharp facial features that look fiery!! I'm not that passionate about the world of the film, because I don't really understand the nature of the characters.
And some facts about him:
Taylor Daniel Lautner is an American film, television and voice actor, singer. Born on February 11, 1992 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He became most famous for his participation in the films: "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Love" (2005); "Valentine's Day" (2010); the vampire saga "Twilight", where he played the role of Jacob Black.

* * *

The universe of animated series!

Michelangelo from the animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"

Michelangelo from the animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"

Michelangelo is a ray of light. How I adore him. He has a great character. He's always trying to cheer up others. He's because I love his character, and he's always funny. Cheerful, free, and friendly. He stands out with his character, and he's the soul of the company. Therefore😊
And a few facts about him:
Michelangelo (also known as Mikey) is one of the four main characters in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. He has the greatest potential among all the sons of Sensei Splinter, but prefers entertainment to training. Michelangelo is portrayed as an immature teenager, prone to puns, having a love of skateboarding, having a sense of humor and boundless optimism, as well as a big fan of pizza. His signature weapons are paired nunchucks.
 He is not only a cartoon series character, but a cartoon character. Whatever.

* * *

The cartoon universe!

Belle from the cartoon "The Beast and the Beauty"

Belle from the cartoon "The Beast and the Beauty"

What a fucking beauty. I've never seen a better princess. She turned a monster into a human! A beautiful woman, with a beautiful face, with a wonderful character. She is more beautiful and better to me than other Disney princesses. Others have such dumb situations, and this teaches something. If the partner is good, then the second one will also be good. She proved it.
A few facts about her:
The main character of the Disney cartoon "Beauty and the Beast", based on the fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne Marie Leprance de Beaumont. Belle is a young girl from a French village, the only daughter of the inventor Maurice. She is very brave, smart and beautiful. Belle loves to read more than anything in the world. She became a princess by marrying Prince Adam and freeing him from the witchcraft of the sorceress, who turned the prince into a monster for his cruelty. Belle is French by birth.

Nickname from the cartoon "Zveropolis"

Nickname from the cartoon "Zveropolis"

Whatever, a great conversationalist, and handsome despite the fact that he is just a fox. Buy it for me :(
A few facts about him:
 Nicholas "Nick" Wilde (eng. Nicholas "Nick" Wilde) is the protagonist of the 2016 Disney feature—length animated film "Zveropolis". He is a cunning and charismatic rogue fox who unwittingly becomes an assistant to an aspiring police officer, Judy Hops, investigating a case of mass disappearance of animals.

* * *

The universe of TV series!

Jack from the TV series "Jack Reacher"

Jack from the TV series "Jack Reacher"

An attractive military man. Honest and confident. He came to me right after I watched the first episode of Jack Reacher.
A few facts about him:

Tom Cruise (eng. Tom Cruise, full name Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (eng. Thomas Cruise Mapother IV); b. July 3, 1962, Syracuse, New York, USA) is an American actor, film director, screenwriter and film producer. Three-time Golden Globe Award winner and three-time Oscar nominee.

* * *

The anime universe!

Mash from the anime "Mash: Magic and Muscles"

Mash from the anime "Mash: Magic and Muscles"

He's perfect, but a little introverted. Honestly, I would have married him. The miles are 3333. He is created just perfectly, appearance, body, mind, intellect, and character. You can't call him a weakling, you fucking bastard. But he shouldn't belong to Inosen Zero, because this fucking dick doesn't deserve such a perfect son. I ESTIMATE IT AT 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/10!!!
A few facts about him:

Mash Vandad (Berndad) is the main character of the anime Magic and Muscles, which by the standards of the anime universe is an anomaly to be destroyed. Born without magical abilities, the young man developed unprecedented physical strength through training and, with his incredible actions, significantly violated the reality familiar to magicians. Mash Berndad was born without any magical abilities, and such people do not live long in the fantasy world, so the father protected and hid his son from prying eyes. When the guy grew up, he and his father went to live in the woods away from people. Mash has remarkable physical strength and constantly keeps himself in shape, while not forgetting to make delicious pastries. One day, Mash is still discovered, and now, in order to avoid death, he needs to become a student of the prestigious academy of magic and pass all the necessary tests, relying only on the strength of his muscles.

Naofumi from the anime "The Rise of the Shield Hero"

Naofumi from the anime "The Rise of the Shield Hero"

But who is he? HE'S A HANDSOME GUY. He is self-confident, and not only withdrawn and firm, but good-natured. He took care of both Raftalia and Phil. He loved only those who believed in him. He was humiliated in this world, but the humiliation was removed from his head by Raphtalia. Well, ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
A few facts about him:

Naofumi Iwatani is a character in the anime, manga and ranobe The Rise of the Shield Hero. This is a twenty-year-old student who was called to another world as a Shield Hero. He is usually unsociable, but he is always calm and friendly with those who are next to him. Due to the fact that Shield was considered the "weakest" of all the heroes, he was given the title of loser, and the other heroes refused to share information about the world with Iwatani. For the same reason, he was betrayed and slandered by his companion. Because of this, I lost the opportunity to experience romantic feelings and trust others.

Jinshi from the anime "The Pharmacist's Monologue"

Jinshi from the anime "The Pharmacist's Monologue"

What kind of Jenshina is this? Handsome, good-natured, beloved, and confident. I love him like hell, but it's impossible not to love him.
A few facts about him:

At the beginning of the story, Ginshi is introduced as a eunuch in the harem, but later he mentions in a conversation with an assistant that one of his duties is to verify the fidelity of the emperor's concubines, and that the emperor himself gave him this role. In the 10th episode of season 1, "The Pharmacist's Monologue", the story of Ado's concubine is revealed. Maomao finds out that Ado gave birth to a son by the current emperor 17 years ago; on the same day, the son of the previous emperor, who is the father of the current emperor, was also born. Thus, the current emperor had a son and a brother at the same time.Lady Ado's son dies in infancy, while the emperor's brother is plagued by illness and therefore does not appear in public. The emperor, cunningly managing the harem, sent his most trusted man to keep an eye on him from the inside. This man is actually the emperor's brother, who avoids appearing in society.However, Maomao later suggests that Ado replaced her son with the son of the last emperor, and perhaps Ginshi is the son of Ado and the current emperor, which makes him the heir to the empire.

* * *

The Marvel and Disney universe!

Wolverine. Just a Wolverine.

Wolverine. Just a Wolverine.

An honest, strong, experienced man. He has a very great personality, and is calm. I would call him "kotikeee." Well, his abilities are excellent) I love it just like that.
A few facts about him:

Wolverine (real name — James Howlett), also known as Logan and Weapon X, is a comic book superhero published by Marvel Comics. The character appeared in the 180th issue of the Incredible Hulk comic in October 1974. It was created by writers Roy Thomas and Len Wayne and artist John Romita Sr. Wolverine is a mutant with superhuman abilities. He has a healing factor that allows him to survive severe wounds that are fatal to an ordinary person. Most poisons and diseases also do not cause damage to Wolverine's health. His superpower increases endurance and dexterity, sharpens the senses, slows down the aging of the body. Wolverine is an expert in many types of hand—to-hand combat, has combat training, worked as a scout, mercenary and CIA agent. He participated in the First and Second World Wars, fought in Spain and Vietnam.

Deadpool. Just a Grandfather)

Deadpool. Just a Grandfather)

Well, a charismatic don't care. He's funny and strong. Despite the fact that he is a pervert in the film, in real life he is a loving daddy))) Well, it's vulgar.
A few facts about him:

The antihero of comics published by Marvel Comics, created by artist Rob Lyfeld and writer Fabien Nisiza and first appeared in the comic The New Mutants # 98. Nicknamed the "Chatty Mercenary", the character has a non-standard, extremely cynical and vulgar sense of humor. Originally portrayed as a villain in his early appearances, he is a disfigured Canadian mercenary with superhuman regenerative healing abilities and near-immortality.

Wonder Woman. It's just a miracle)

Wonder Woman. It's just a miracle)

She's so cool that I get a kick out of watching it. I love sooooooo much <3
A few facts about her:

Before becoming Wonder Woman, she was Diana, the princess of the Amazons, trained to be an invincible warrior. And when an American pilot crashes on the shores of her home island, fenced off from the outside world, and tells about a large-scale conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves home to confront evil. Fighting side by side with a man in the war for peace, Diana will discover the fullness of her power and her true purpose.

* * *

The universe of games!

Bea from the game "Brave Stars"

Bea from the game "Brave Stars"

I just love playing with her. A very good brawler.
A few facts about her:

"Bea spends her days watching different bugs, imagining how cool it would be to understand their language... or even be one of them.". Bea is an epic fighter of the "shooter" class. It can be obtained for 925 credits on Starr Road or at level 25 of the premium Brawl Pass.

* * *

And the last one, the manhwa universe!!

Jura from Manhwa "Peach sorbet"

Jura from Manhwa "Peach sorbet"

He's awesome. He is confident, strong, great, cute, nimble, cute, sexy and all the same!!!!!!! My love for him cannot be said in words, I adore him straightforwardly.
A few facts about him:

Moa has a complex, as she has never had any yanyanyashkas. It's natural for adults to have a sex life, so it's hard for her to talk about it with friends. Once, while playing a game with them, she tried to avoid this question by lying that she had an experience with the fictional character Yura. But then the real Yura appeared.

Eugene from Manhattan "Peach Sorbet"

Eugene from Manhattan "Peach Sorbet"

What should I say?Is he a sexy, handsome, kind doctor?😏😏
A few facts about him:
Eugene is Moa's tutor, who has been teaching her since high school. He was like a dad to her. But, Moa hid the fact that she loved him. But Eugene did, too. After a lot of time, they started dating, becoming a "teacher and student couple."

I tried my best, I hope you enjoyed it. Bye, everyone! And spocky noki!

The Story of the Hollow Knight (prologue)

Prologue

Once an ordinary peasant's son dreamed of becoming a knight. At home, on the farm, he was looking for sticks that reminded him of a sword. Over the years, he had accumulated a whole collection, which he boasted to his friends. His parents had different attitudes towards his desire to be a hero. The mother supported her son, and proudly watched each new learned technique, the father was stricter. He told his child from an early age: "Do you want to be a hero, to fight? Then earn coins for armor and a sword. Yes, save up more so that you don't get stabbed in the first fight." The boy remembered this instruction every evening before falling asleep.

When he reached the age at which he could be useful, he immediately went to work - to take sheep's wool to the market, plow a field, help in everyday life...He took on everything he could. And it paid off, already as a young man, there was enough money in a wooden box by the bed to buy the first outfit. But there was a fly in the ointment...The father, who by that time was tired of farming and had stopped bringing enough for a favorable life into his house, was well aware of how much was in his son's hiding place. And after another quarrel with his wife, he decided to steal the child's possessions over the years and spend them on himself, on booze. That evening was a defining one for the boy and his mother. After all, the man got into a fight, got out of it almost unscathed, but in an instant he suddenly felt dizzy, his legs did not obey, and eventually fell off a cliff.

The mother couldn't find a place for herself, at first blamed herself and said every word of that quarrel a hundred times a day, but then she found solace in her boy's goal. The sooner he went to war, the sooner she would get back to her old life, she muttered to herself. The son was faithful to his dream, he lived only for it, but he had to save up for armor again. Their cozy farm withered and turned into a training place for a young man, the loving and supportive look of his mother was replaced by the control of a mad woman over every step and the accumulated coin. He was ready to live with it because he loved and understood her grief. But one winter, the woman reached her maximum, and while they were sitting at a meager dinner, she suddenly threw the boy's things and himself out of the hut: "Until you bring gold, this house is closed to you!". It was the second evening in the young man's life, which devastated him and at the same time gave him an incentive to move towards the goal of becoming a knight.

Are you waiting for part 1?2

ANIOŁ

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

We all realize that games can not only entertain, but also teach us something. For example, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise, which often features real historical figures and highlights incidents from different eras, can be a good tool for teaching children who are interested in history. However, the educational potential of video games is not limited to this.

Each of us can learn something new for ourselves or change our outlook on life with the help of video game characters. Some of the virtual mentors are able to teach useful skills that will be needed in real life, while others are always inclined to share wise advice that is worth listening to.

The Witcher 3: Vesemir

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

This character is known primarily as the oldest witch from the School of the Wolf. Vesemir not only taught Geralt the basics of survival and martial arts, but also became something of a father figure to him.

He was always ready to listen to Geralt's problems and give him life advice when he needed it. Vesemir managed to teach even Ciri practically everything he knew himself. Despite his stern exterior, Vesemir had a heart of gold: he raised Ciri as his own granddaughter and made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Caer Morhen.

Skyrim: Parturnax

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

The ancient dragon Parturnax, who dwells in the lands of Skyrim, is one of the greatest teachers in video games. He resides on the highest mountain (the ever-snowy Throat of the World) and is the leader of the Greybeards.

A long time ago, Parturnax was Alduin's right wing, but eventually changed his mind and sided with humanity. He often gives wise counsel to the Dragonborn, teaches the protagonist the Words of Power, and teaches him a number of important life lessons. In doing so, Parturnax also shares interesting facts about dragon customs and culture.

God of War: Kratos

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

Up until the soft reboot of the franchise in 2018, Kratos was driven only by hatred coupled with blind rage. However, after the hero took revenge on the Greek gods, he managed to build a new family - this time already in the world of Scandinavian legends.

Throughout the game, Kratos tries his best to get closer to his son Atreus, although he does so with some difficulty. At times Kratos can seem overly harsh towards his son, but it is clear that he cares deeply for the boy. It is this love that drives the hero to teach Atreus how to survive in this cruel world. Interestingly, Atreus himself, in turn, teaches his father to be more patient and carin

The Last of Us: Joel

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

Joel's journey as a father and mentor is at the heart of one of the most touching stories about foster children and parents. While at first he treated Ellie as a package to be delivered from point A to point B, by the end of the first game he had developed a warm paternal love for her.

In the first part of The Last of Us, Joel had to teach the girl basic survival skills - for example, how to behave in a fight or how to shoot a rifle. However, as they grew closer, Joel began teaching Ellie other, more down-to-earth things - for example, in The Last of Us, he taught her how to play the guitar. In turn, Ellie helped him become more open-minded again, as he had been before his daughter's death.

The Uncharted Series: Victor Sullivan.

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

Perhaps one of the most famous treasure hunters is Victor Sullivan (aka Sully) from the Uncharted series. He takes young Nathan Drake into his care and raises him as his own son after Nate tries to steal the same treasure that Sully himself has already had his eye on.

Despite the fact that Sully has often done questionable things in the past, he shows great love and concern for Nathan. He teaches the boy to put his ego aside when making decisions. Apparently, all these lessons were not in vain, because Nathan managed to build a great career as a professional treasure hunter.

Horizon Zero Dawn: Rust

THE TOP 10 BEST TEACHERS FROM GAMES

This character deserves to be included in this selection, if only for the reason that he single-handedly raises Eloi, who was considered an outcast by the rest of the Nora tribe.

Since Rust was an outcast himself, he taught Eloi how to properly control her emotions. For example, he prevented her from attacking a boy from the Nora tribe who was teasing her rather cruelly. He also imparted his skills as a skilled hunter and fighter to Eloi, so that she could rely only on herself in the future. During one of the skirmishes with his enemies, Rast sacrificed his life so that Eloi could escape.
