Predator, from horror to buddy movie

Predator (1987)

After the success of Spielberg's "Alien," everyone wanted their own one. They've been in horror movies before. But the creators went cooler, they made a military horror out of it.

We have a powerful squad led by Schwartz in front of us, which is the first time in the genre, by the way. They are sent to the jungle with a flourish, where they need to find a squad that has recently disappeared. Literally every character in the movie is a very, very pumped up and cool uncle. Breaking up a whole squad of Russians highlights their coolness. As a result, they themselves become the target of an invisible man. What his goals are is also not clear. But he kills bloodily and cruelly.

Before us is the personification of war. The characters are fresh and new, all have gone before and after they were overtaken by the cruelest thing. It's a test of their manhood. And almost everyone fails it in the end. By the way, I don't really consider a Predator to be an action movie, because here it is at the beginning, shooting into the void and at animals in the middle and the battle at the end. So it's totally horror.

Why is that? See for yourself. There is a monster, its appearance. By the way, they don't show him, just his eyes and invisibility. His methods are brutal. He literally removes the skin, takes the skulls out of the body, and just even sounds great, especially when he replaces the voices. Well, it's clear from the movie that we're being shoved in the face with this, there are screamers and a tense ending in the end.

The movie went viral. John McTiernan said that he could make a cool and full-fledged action movie, and then he made a Tough Nut. Well, the film grossed quite well, which turned into a sequel.

Predator 2 (1990)

Hopkins, who shot A Nightmare on Elm Street 5, was given a sequel. Schwartz did not return, instead Glover and a couple more stars. And now we have a stone jungle.

The sequel comes from the perspective of police officers who investigate strange murders. The predator kills whoever it can and scares the locals along the way. The first part of the film is messy and doesn't stand out much. But they still notice the features of the Predator, it does not kill children, women and pregnant women. Therefore, in the movie, where the location in the subway is the most powerful. Otherwise, we have a meat slasher again that has been turned into a noir in places.

By the way, the second half of the film is the most interesting. Because the focus is already on our hero, chasing a predator and fighting on a building. As a result, we have their ship in front of us, a reward for the hero and the most important reference in history. Because after that, thanks to her, we will get a franchise and even hints of the canon. That's why I don't dislike this part. She just had more to do for her world.

The Predators (2010)

Unfortunately, the film was a flop and the Predator was scored until 2004. But the full-fledged series returned 20 years later. And Robert Rodriguez himself shot this part. By the way, the choice is good, but unfortunately everything is not so joyful.

Predators can be called Predator 2.0. Once again, fighters and people that somehow miraculously got to the planet of these creatures. Where they are hunted. By the way, the characters are not the best part of the film, although there are many stars in the cast. The Predators seem to take the same theme from the original, which is not in vain. But, it doesn't make sense at all, almost all the characters are not very pleasant, except for the lady and our Russian actor. That's why you don't worry too much about them.

Yes, even before the new film, they show us the planet, it's beautiful, dangerous, they have their own customs, motives, and even hatred for their own. That's why it was much more interesting to watch than in the sequel. But it's a very neat movie as a sequel. Rather, it's a test of whether a predator is still needed. The fees turned out to be yes.

Predator (2018)

But they returned to the series after 8 years. Yes, everyone waited a long time again. But Shane Black became the director. That he played in part 1 of the series. A lot of people didn't like the movie for its ... special feature.

In fact, we have a safe film in front of us again. A group of dubious people and the main character that leads them to save the world already. Among the features, a lot of humor and funny stuff has been added here. They added tinplate, mats, action, and weak graphene in places, but it didn't hurt my eyes. Well, he still destroyed the squad. They also updated the Predator, it turns out that there is a large-sized species, and they also gave it predator dogs. How can you not love this movie?

By the way. Still, there are problems with the script, where sometimes the characters behave strangely. But they are also pitiful, unlike the Persian Predators, and the tone of the picture will not make you bored. I don't understand the disadvantages of the director's work, but I still consider cinema to be underestimated.

Mining (2022)

In terms of fees, however, the film was a success and the highest-grossing in the series. But for now, the series has been sent to a popular topic - streaming. They put the work in the hands of a hyped-up director from Cloverfield, 10 - Dan Trachtenberg. And this has already turned out to be their surest decision.

Dan went 3 ways. The First Is Mining. This is a prequel. Distant lands, a tribe, and the sudden appearance of some kind of space monster. The main character wants to protect her people and proves it in every possible way, but they don't want to do it to her. We can already see the femme subtext.

The film takes the advantages of part 1, in the Predator itself, which is again cruel, dangerous and powerful. The main character already wants to prove her manhood and strength, so the battle awaits itself in the end. For me, it's a neat movie again (already 3), there's freedom and an important path of a Predator, with a bias towards being loved for it.

By the way, critics called the films the best in the series. I'll tell you that it's definitely the 2nd best movie in the franchise.

Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

The 2nd way is animation. Make an animated series or a whole movie out of it. That's why we got 3 short meters in one movie.

The film reveals different eras. Vikings, samurai and the military, namely pilots. They are all fighting or taking revenge. The very killers who eventually meet the predator. It's still bloody, the stories and animation are beautiful, something in the spirit of Arkane. Well, as a result, the cartoon expands the spectrum of the world. The predators have been with us for a long time. And again, their planet was shown and the battles for the survival of the heroes.

After the credits, by the way, they hinted at the return of old characters from other parts. So we are waiting for the voices of Schwartz and others.

Predator: Planet of Death (2025)

The 3rd way. This is something else. Now the predator is the main character. not the monster behind the scenes. They give him a partner through whom he will explore the world not as proof of his pathos and coolness. And how about his intelligence and justice. They'll even give him a monster.

Yes, the series is still bloody, don't expect horror, it's not enough here. The film can be called more than a family film. Unless the predator itself reminds you outwardly how frightening it is. The film, as I said, is about revenge and acceptance of the other side. The predator, whose name is Dak, survives here and finds a partner, suddenly that from an Alien world, by the way, he should have been here, but it's too early or for now to hold the effect. So now it's officially one world.

The film is more than good, humor again, good action and character development, even a couple of twists were given. Unless the current finale is flying fast here. We are waiting for the sequels.

Results:

The franchise is iconic, now it goes in different directions, and judging by the enthusiasm of critics and viewers, we are waiting for all 3 at once. There's still a lot to show and bring back. The main thing is not to forget about horror and that the image of a predator is still for this genre.

Alien vs Predator (2004)

Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007)

Well, that's the bonus of 2 films from the series that gave us the legendary crossover. Anderson was actually filmed by Resident Evil again, the current shoved a group of human researchers here, Even merges them in the same way, and even the actor is the same as in Resident Evil. In general, it's a controversial movie in places, but it's thanks to the cool moments and the find in the form of a battle of 2 legends that it's excusable.

A sequel to the word on earth. Strangers are here for the first time by the way. That's why it was interesting to see it. But some Strauss brothers made the most violent, but empty horror where everything, without compromise, is made up of cardboard characters. Even though the finale showed a bit of a hybrid of Alien and Predator, but that's not enough for the whole movie. There was also a social message, but it was sensitive.
