Why is colonization of other planets the ravings of a madman?

Let's start with the base, namely with radiation. Outside the Earth's magnetosphere, cosmic radiation (galactic cosmic rays and solar bursts) significantly exceeds the permissible doses; prolonged exposure is accompanied by an increased risk of cancer, cardiovascular and neurological diseases.

Now a little bit of biology. During long-term flights and living in microgravity, bone density decreases by about ~1% per month, muscles atrophy, and the cardiovascular system and vestibular apparatus change; despite exercise, there are no complete and stable countermeasures yet. In short, the demographics will be worse than ours now.

So, he just put on a spacesuit and already turned into a skeleton.

Technical underdevelopment. The experience of Biosphere-2 and decades of research on the creation of completely closed systems has shown that it is extremely difficult to maintain chemical and microbial balance, stable carbon/nitrogen/water cycles and full—fledged food production; minor errors lead to the accumulation of toxins, oxygen deficiency or unpredictable failures. That is, it's hard for people even on Earth, but where do we care about the candy bar.

Biosphere-2 is a scientific experiment conducted in the USA

Analyses of the Martian atmosphere have shown that the available co₂ and other greenhouse reservoirs are not enough to create a dense warm atmosphere with modern technology; real estimates of the time and energy to change the planetary climate are hundreds and thousands of years (this is even longer than waiting in line at the clinic).

What about the money? Estimates of the cost of the first manned mission to Mars are in the hundreds of billions — a trillion dollars or more, taking into account the infrastructure of life support; without mass, cheap transport and continuous financing, the colony will cost more than the value of its products. I remind you that our ocean has been explored by 5%, there is not enough money and desire even to study what is at hand.

Why is colonization of other planets the ravings of a madman?

International recommendations and policies (COSPAR, the Outer Space Treaty) explicitly require the prevention of contamination of alien bodies by terrestrial microorganisms and the protection of the Earth from alien biomolecules; mass population risks destroying the scientific opportunity to learn about alien life, as well as creating unpredictable biorisks. Did you even know that such nonsense exists?

The next part is the trouble with the head.  Long—term missions are accompanied by depression, conflict, cognitive impairment, and decreased efficiency - the effects of isolation are amplified by distance from Earth, which jeopardizes the colony's performance as a community.

Who owns, who pays, who is responsible? The norms of international law (the Outer Space Treaty) prohibit the appropriation of celestial bodies, but do not provide a working mechanism for ownership/responsibility for colonies; colonization will generate conflicts of interest, commercial exploitation, and long-term jurisdiction that have not yet been resolved internationally.

This bro definitely deserves a plate of rice.

Life and peace are a gift that needs to be taken care of; attempts to relocate humanity en masse, neglecting the preservation and healing of their own land, look like a form of pride and flight from responsibility. Until we solve the problems of heritage, ecology, and social justice on Earth, mass colonization of other planets remains a dubious and dangerous priority.

PS: This does not mean that space exploration is meaningless — robotic science, remote missions, and the development of technologies to help humanity on Earth are reasonable and useful. But to imagine colonization is either a romantic myth or a big risk.

Leitmotif

The ultimate
The ultimate

Interest is the path to results. It was interest that became the motive to go on a long and gloomy journey.

On September 5, 1977, a Wanderer in aluminum armor took off into the skies in order to conquer distant spaces. Cutting through the atmosphere, he plunged into icy darkness, filled with silence and the light of distant lights illuminating myriad possible paths. And that was the beginning of his century-long odyssey.

Native lands filled with high mountains, deep waters, bustling cities, quiet villages and sun-warmed fields have long been left far behind the traveler. Loving families, beautiful landscapes of ancient nature, a variety of cuisines from all over the world, art. All of this had lost sight of our hero for so long that it seemed to have aged and faded. Gebekli Tepe, Babylon, Ancient Rome, the Cenozoic era, flash by on a worn film.

No matter how beautiful and huge Jupiter's granite grandeur was, its stone structure could not resist the crushing blow of his supremacy of Fate. Hundreds of small, brightest stars were hopelessly extinguished in the chronos stream. As the Wanderer moved purposefully forward, Chaos quietly covered his tracks.

In the beginning, the Milk River spread out in an endless channel. The record says that it was previously called the "Milky Way". Now it is a dried-up huge ditch, from which Aquarius can no longer drink a cup, and Sagittarius cannot moisten his faithful arrows. Astrology? Not at all. The constellations here have long lost the power given to them by birth. The sky here is nothing more than a worn carpet.

Astrophobia is the fear of stars and space. But our Knight could not be a hero if he was afraid of these silent dead – the black devouring Phoenix proudly gave way to the Wanderer. The endless space scares with its infinity. The sun blazes with its immense flame. And yet it's so intriguing. But who are they trying to see in the distance between the dusty galaxies, when garbage crunches indifferently under their feet ? Naive minds are anxiously and meticulously examining the most ancient painting by a mysterious artist while a storm is raging outside the window. An unknown meteorite messenger rushes somewhere at a hasty hitchhiking gait across the Galaxy, leaving behind a crooked tail, like a line drawn according to the patterns of great painters.

The ultimate

Silence...

Skyscrapers and houses in residential areas shine fascinatingly at night. Deer gallop gracefully through the thicket. They're playing a new comedy at the cinema. But all this is no longer important and has long been forgotten by the universe. The Voyager 1 space probe is flying the last kilometers. He is detected by an eye watching from a distance of three highways. The most significant CD in the history of mankind smoothly lands on a surface that has not been touched for centuries. Images, music, audio recordings: an unearthly mechanism deciphers mysterious data. They found him. They finally found him.

The ultimate

"I observe clouds above the Ground, small cumulus clouds, and shadows from them. Beautiful, beautiful!… Attention. I see the horizon of the Earth. It's such a beautiful halo. First, a rainbow from the very surface of the Earth and down. Such a rainbow is crossing. It's very beautiful!"

Boundless Ocean of Stars: Reflections on the Cosmos

Space is a vast expanse that catches our imagination and brings mystery into our lives. It fills us with incredible experiences and questions, arousing our curiosity and thirst for exploration. We humans have always sought to push our boundaries and penetrate the mysteries of this great cosmic ocean.

As we gaze into the night sky, watching the shining stars and mysterious planets, we can't help but wonder: what lies beyond our Earth? What wonders does the cosmos hide? Each star, each galaxy is just a tiny particle in the vast world, which conceals endless possibilities and mysteries.

Traveling through space is about exploring new worlds, encountering incredible life forms, and seeing what lies beyond our normal understanding. It is an insight into the multiverse, where reality expands to the edges of the unimaginable. Here we can imagine the possibility of parallel universes, black holes and time loops.

Space inspires us to think about our place in the universe. It reminds us of our insignificance and greatness at the same time. It allows us to ponder the meaning of life, the origin of the universe and our role in this vast cosmic ballet.

Let us not forget that space is not only a place for scientific exploration and space travel. It also offers us the opportunity to develop our imagination and creativity, inspires the creation of art and literature, allows us to dream of the future, and imbues us with a sense of awe for the unknown.

May we continue to marvel at the cosmos, exploring its mysteries and striving to push the boundaries of our understanding. May every star above us remind us of our uniqueness and greatness. And may we never stop seeking answers to the questions that the infinite Universe asks us.

* * *

May our thoughts always remain turned to the stars and our hearts be filled with the majesty of the cosmos. See you soon, friends, and may your dreams take you beyond the boundless expanse of space.
