After reading the title of the post, you will probably ask me: "Skeleton, what were you smoking? Go get out!" Don't worry, my friends, I'll explain everything now:
Do you remember the post about my CD collection? In it, I spoke very flatteringly about the band Underworld and their album Oblivion With Bells, giving it a ten out of ten. Continuing to add to my collection, I began to look for other records of this group and found Beaucoup Fish released in 1999 on Avito.
Having taken it for myself, I immediately listened to it. And so... Forget what I said about Oblivion With Bells. It's not a 10/10. Beaucoup Fish is a ten. No, a hundred out of ten! No bitch, it's a mower out of 10!!! The album impressed me so much that I would like to analyze it more specifically here in my blog. And so that you don't spit on the monitor, because for you electronic music is the piss of a camel, I decided to entice the reader with an animation. Or rather, I called Hitori Goto from the anime "Lonely Rocker!" so that they would also listen to each track and share their emotions when listening (something similar was in my other post with Tika Fujiwara). Or if you just like my literary style, then have a nice read!
Yeah, these guys

But before I tell you what makes this "fish" so good, a few words about the band itself: Underworld is a duo (formerly a trio) of boys from the UK (the birthplace of iconic electronic music), consisting of Carl Hyde and Rick Smith. Before making music, they painted paintings and also worked as dishwashers at a local rock club. Starting to tear up plates and craft salads, the guys decided to join the world of sound writing themselves, only at first it was not entirely successful: their then-band The Screen Gemz was not fucking needed by anyone. Later they founded another band: Freur. And they also shit themselves.
And only from the third pass did Hyde and Smith more or less succeed: their Underworld MK1 suddenly fired and then it started!
Beaucoup Fish

And here is the hero of the occasion. The fifth official album of the Anders then, in '99, gave a lot of shit to the entire dance scene. The album was very well received by music critics and remains the band's best-selling album to date.
Let's not delay, let's move on to the songs:
Cups

The album begins with a rather harmless and unpretentious techno track that runs for almost 11 (!) minutes. But despite this, the track sweeps through your head very quickly and there is no feeling of tightness. In addition, Cups is divided into two parts and the transition between them gives the impression that you listened to a certain DJ set in miniature. The beginning has been made!
8/10
Push Upstairs

An excellent and dynamic progressive trance composition with a very catchy piano melody. I especially wanted to mention how Hyde sings here. It doesn't even sound like singing, but rather like reading out some kind of prayer or sermon. It turns out very strangely and out of place, but at the same time it takes the vocals.
9/10
Jumbo

This track gives off some vibes of The Chemical Brothers and early The Prodigy. Also, a rather simple and ordinary composition, but for some reason I want to listen to it further. Probably because of the haunting bass melody that will be spinning in my head after eavesdropping for a long time.
8/10
Shudder/King Of Snake

Along with Moaner, this track is one of the main tracks in the album and one of the most famous in the band in general. The number of remixes and bootlegs for this song is slightly more than before. The song itself is gorgeous, with so many different sounds and percussion appearing in it every time that you can go crazy. And the remix by Fatboy Slima turns the track into a meaty and tearing f*alo bigbit, which is no worse than the original.
10/10
Winjer

Suddenly, after three dynamic and danceable compositions, the Anders decided to slow down the tempo with this ambient techno track. A very calm, atmospheric and enveloping thing, listening to which creates the feeling that you are deep in Antarctic waters. I haven't heard a staff like that from a DJ since Narayan!
10/10
Skym

An even quieter track, which is already a full-fledged ambient. Just light, barely audible electronic synths. And nothing more. Although the vocals were superfluous here, the track would have been even better without it. Probably...
8/10
Bruce Lee

Well, we've had a rest and we can slam again. This song is a very pretentious and delivering piece in every sense in the style of electro, hip-hop and alternative. By the way, the beat reminded me of the Robbie Williams song Supreme, only tougher and more brutal. Why not?
8/10
Kittens

Absolutely every album should have some kind of "snot", i.e. a track that does not stand out in comparison with the rest. This track took over this fate. Well, I played here, although the track is still as dynamic and was even taken by the soundtrack to the Wipeout game, but this time it is very boring and ordinary. And it takes too long to accelerate. Although the name is very cute: "Kittens" = Z
6/10
Push Downstairs

Reworking of the second track from progressive trance to ambient. The tempo has decreased, the basses and synths have changed from powerful and disconnected to deeper ones, the text has changed slightly. It turned out very well, although the first version delivers much more.
7/10
Something Like a Mama

Another relaxing composition, only at a high tempo. The song smooths out falling breakbeats with soft ascending pads, and guitar taps add depth and atmosphere to the track. Almost a perfect score!
9/10
Moaner

Well, that's the finale. And perhaps the most memorable track of the album. What's the point: the track begins with a rather ordinary techno, but each time more and more brutal and greasy gadgets are added to it. And if at first you just move your head slightly, then by the third minute your whole body is already cold.
But this is just the beginning. In the middle, the track returns to its initial state and Carl Hyde begins to read his "sermon" again. At first, he reads in Borya Moiseev's dull voice, but again, over time, he begins to raise his voice more and more, almost breaking down in the end. And with it, just like the first time, the music becomes more psychotic and disconnected.
This. Simply. A*uenno. The highest score!!!
10/10

Such things. Until recently, I had 2 pillars of the best electronic albums: These are The Fat Of The Land from DJs and Dig Your Own Hole from Chemicals. But after I bought and listened to Beaucup Fish, there were 3 of these pillars. Critics referred to the album as the "Dark Side of the Moon" of electronics, and I agree with them 146%. I highly recommend you to listen!
Well, how do you like Hitori? Did you like it?

- Yeah!
I knew it.
My respects for reading!^^
