Love That Broke Me

Love isn’t always the bright, shiny thing we imagine — sometimes it’s a proper gut punch that sinks deep into your soul. Unrequited love, a shattered heart, guilt, and self-loathing — these are the mates that can tag along, leaving scars behind. In this post, I want to spill what’s behind those words: feelings that are tough to put down but impossible to dodge.

* * *

Love as a Flame — Warms You Up, Burns You Down

Love’s one of the wildest things we humans can feel. It kicks off somewhere deep inside, like a tiny spark that turns into a full-on blaze, warming you with hope and dreams. Psychologists reckon it’s a chemical mess in your head — dopamine gets you buzzing, oxytocin glues you to the one you fancy. But love’s got two faces: it lifts you up and leaves you vulnerable. When that fire doesn’t get any heat back, it starts to scorch, leaving nothing but emptiness and ache. We chase love like it’s the key to life, but we forget it can also rip you apart.

So why does it hurt so bloody much? It’s all about expectations and being wide open. When you fall, you bare your soul, handing over a piece of yourself, trusting them with your deepest bits. It’s brave, but it’s a massive risk. If they don’t feel the same, rejection hits like a brick — psychologists say it’s one of the worst things your mind can go through, lighting up the same pain spots as a real injury. Your heart, full of hope, just shrivels up when it realises it’s not wanted, and your dreams collapse like a house of cards in the wind.

The pain of love isn’t just a feeling — it’s a whole process that rewires you. It makes you doubt, pick apart every word and glance, wondering where it went wrong. Sometimes it’s a mirror showing you your fears and flaws; other times, it’s a shove to grow. But when it’s fresh, it feels like there’s no way out — every breath tastes bitter, every thought loops back to the one who didn’t care. Love teaches you beauty and suffering are two sides of the same coin, and you can’t have one without the other.

When Love Turns Into a Trap

For the last six months, I’ve been stuck with a feeling that’s supposed to be pure but keeps dragging me under like a weight round my neck. It’s love for someone who sees me as a blip while they’re my whole damn world. Back in August 2024, I met this girl I fell for, proper head over heels, from the first moment. That month was a rare gem — summer vibes, my birthday, walks, cuddles in the park. She lived 50 kilometres away in the next town. I’d see her off at the bus station, lingering in long hugs, then drive over just to catch her smile again. We’d wander about, she’d nap on my lap, her mum would call us in for pie. We’d film daft TikToks, watch films, crash out under one blanket. I couldn’t sleep — her warmth, her sleepy face, they were my lifeline in my messy life, like water after a drought. Best thing I’d ever felt.

Then it all fell apart one “lovely” day. She asked me to hang out, but with her mate tagging along, and I felt like a spare part all night. Jealousy ate at me, even though I had no right. Then she dropped it — they were together. She’s bi, I knew she’d dated blokes before, but it still hit like a sledgehammer. Something inside just switched off, emotions gone. I walked 10 kilometres home, laughing it off with mates at first, then sinking into a black hole. I grabbed half a litre of booze — me, who never drinks — downed it in one and recorded rants for her, slumped on the roadside, done with it all. We tried chatting after, but it wasn’t the same. Later, I found out her relationship was toxic, like mine once were. I wanted to help, not for me, but because I know how it ends. Her breakup talk sounded hollow, and then I clocked her phone — hearts with that girl while we were chilling at my gran’s. Betrayal cut deep.

Two months, no contact. I hated myself for ditching her after promising I’d stay. Tried to forget — nearly did — till I saw her again. One flash of her smile, and I’m driving home grinning to cute tunes, even though I started the day all stoic. She broke my rules: me, the guy who swore by freedom in relationships, stopped talking to other girls, liking their pics, even unfollowed everyone but her. Every love song, every heartbreak tune — it’s her now. She tosses me scraps of hope — a TikTok hinting at us, a video to my song. Is she playing me, or just clueless? I cling to it while my life — uni, cash, stress — cracks under the strain. I loved her more than anyone, and I can’t escape this trap where my head fights my heart with no way out.

* * *

Now I’m just trying to get by with all this baggage. Every day, I go to uni, smile at people, crack jokes. Sometimes I’m too loud, a bit aggro or arrogant. I’m all over the place — sweet and kind one minute, pathetic and cocky the next. I’m broken, no lie. I’m a mess, and it spills out, hurting mates or randoms without meaning to. At home, I’m usually down, sometimes crashing into panic attacks and tears — yeah, blokes cry too. Guilt gnaws at me for everyone I’ve let down, promises I didn’t keep, lives I’ve mucked up. That unrequited love still haunts me, and I’m scared I’ll never shake her. I love her like Lucifer loved Chloe Decker.

I’m trying to shove it aside, but it cracks sometimes. I’ve started this big project on Pikuco — you’ll hear about it soon. I’m giving streaming a go, though I stress over no viewers and feeling like no one cares. People call me a clown online, and maybe they’re right. I act all sigma, but it stings inside. Guess that’s how I roll. Adult life hit me with a load of baggage — guilt from the past and more. I moved in with a girl once, and we messed it up bad. I was a rubbish boyfriend, pushed her to tears and breakdowns, though I never meant harm. My hate came from pain. I’m so sorry for hurting you, and I’m sorry for any harsh words I threw your way. I didn’t mean to wound you or be that ex we both hate. You gave me so much, and I’m grateful you were part of my story. I love you as a mate, as someone who shaped me. I’m proper proud of you and what you’ve done. Wishing you creative wins, strength to chase your dreams, and peace with some cats thrown in. Don’t follow my lead — do what lights you up, no regrets. Life’s one shot, let the strawberries bloom. Thanks.

I’m working on being better, even with zero faith in myself or love. But I reckon with my skills and grit, I’ll make something happen. Maybe, reader, you’ll spot me in the news one day. For now, this is your old mate Rayman under the EFFECT mask.

* * *

Everything that’s happened is a bitter lesson — love’s a gift and a trap all at once. It’s teaching me to value myself, even with a smashed heart, and to let go of what’s not mine. I’m still learning, one step at a time. Reader, if this rings a bell, don’t lose yourself chasing someone else’s warmth. You’re worth more than scraps.

Sorry to everyone I’ve hurt, words or actions, especially my close ones — mates, those who stuck by me in the dark. I didn’t always see your worth like I should’ve. Cheers to my friends who dragged me out of the pit, and to those I loved, even if it turned sour — you made me who I am. Wishing you all peace and luck down the road. I’m off to work on a team project — time to build something new and keep moving.

Tips for Watching Silent Films

  1. Start with Short Films: Before diving into feature-length films, consider starting with shorter works to get a feel for the style and pacing of silent cinema.
  2. Pay Attention to Visuals: Since dialogue is absent, filmmakers relied heavily on visual storytelling. Pay close attention to facial expressions, body language, and the use of props and settings.
  3. Learn About the Context: Understanding the historical and cultural context of silent films can enhance your viewing experience. Research the time period, the filmmakers’ intentions, and the societal issues reflected in the films.
  4. Use Subtitles or Title Cards: While some silent films have been restored with intertitles (on-screen text that conveys dialogue or narration), others may require subtitles to fully understand the story. Make sure to use these tools to enhance your understanding.
  5. Watch with Others: Silent films can be a great shared experience. Watching with friends or family can enhance the enjoyment and provide different perspectives on the films.

Recommended Silent Films for Beginners

  1. The Kid (1921) directed by Charlie Chaplin: A heartwarming and humorous tale that showcases Chaplin’s talent for blending comedy and drama.

Unnecessary facts by Foxina

Foxina

TOP 10 FAVORITE CARTOON INTROS

Hi, Foxina dropped in Pikuco for a couple of minutes!

10th place - pixar

Pixar - how many meanings there are in this word, it is both a legendary studio and a failed studio. Everyone who grew up in the 2000s says that new projects are great, but this is not the case) Yes, "Turning red" is like a mess, and "Buzz Lightyear" is even worse, but remember "Soul", "Luca", "Good Dinosaur", "Inside out", "Elemental" and many others.

Oh, "Soul" and "Luca", I remember going to the movies for them, nostalgia) Well, we don't forget "Elemental" either)

9th place - The whole truth about bears

Well, catchy music in the intro, and anyway, I liked the cartoon at the beginning of 2022, and even now, it's a cool animated series, it's a pity that it's not very popular.

8th place - Winx Season 4

Season 4 is so cool, I like it, of course it's not as cool as season 6, but it's very interesting, and this is the first season of Winx that I've seen! Legend. The intro is top!

7th place - Winx Season 6

Here we have the screensaver of my favorite Winx season - Season 6! She's cheerful, dynamic, and generally has a friendly atmosphere. I love the season and the intro! Bloomix in a heart!

6th place - Disney

Guys, you know, there's nowhere without Disney, yes, everything is bad for them now, but I remembered the old Disney (Foxina bee likes it - she reproaches in 10th place for the fact that everyone loves the old, and in 6th point she says that everything is old). Disney isn't Pixar, so they're not doing well. But intro flew away, I didn't find intro with 100 on the Internet, but I remember it in reality!

5th place - Bluey

I decided on a Bingo theme because Bingo is more popular)

I know Bluey's fans are going to eat you up and say, You like Bluey, so why isn't she in the first place!?

And I will say that if I like it, then I have the right not to put it in the first place. Yes, Bluey top, but the theme is simple.

4th place - Winx Season 7

The Winx season 7 intro is just a dump of everything, usually it's considered childish, but everything is fine here - the instrumental, the singer's voice, the animation and all that!

3rd place - Hilda

Since my two clansmen ARE JUST OBSESSED WITH HILDA, I can't help but add her, well, the screensaver is really cute, and the soundtrack is pleasant, in general.

2nd place - Animaniacs

Animaniacs have made a mega-satirical intro, and the music is rocking. Basically, Animaniacs became famous for the World of Yakko, America of Wakko and presidents. Also test songs!

1st place - Innovators

A legendary intro that you can listen to in any language. I have inserted a collection of different languages specifically for this purpose. But the original just sounds bombastic.

Well, I went back to Picuco for a couple of seconds - but it's time to go back to rest, ciao!
